I was wondering if Jim Bob and Echo wanted to chat abit.  Otherwise, we can launch into some trade if you like.  Give me some idea of the stuff you're looking for in goods and services and the Minutemen will include them in the trade circle.    The Minutemen have a few questiosn for you first on what it was like on the other side of the Charsle River.

After trading a big meeting to decide where to go and what to do next.  Likely you can persuade them to invite you.

catalytic converters from junked cars (he takes the platinum or other catalyst, for the same reason)

    pre-fall soap
    still-in-the-package toothbrushes
high quality hiking boots or running shoes of any size (for a retailer in Wellrose)
Star Wars memorabilia (for a collector in Wellrose)

Good list.  Can I assume this will be what you tell the Minutemen when you are looking for trade?  They'll basically broker getting you hooked up with others who have what you want and they want.

    some general comments:

a road map of the Boston area: harder to find than you might think, those old atlases didn't last too well

    a stethoscope: maybe

ammonia (for ammunition makers in Wellrose, but he won't reveal that): fairly well known, people save their pee for this at times, reduce it down and sell it.  The chemistry is beyond most communities.

catalytic converters from junked cars (he takes the platinum or other catalyst, for the same reason)  This one is a real secret of the Welrose scavengers.  Often covered up for by looking for all the old parts, even odd ones as they got a lot of old stuff that needs more of the original parts.  Traders and scavengers cover this up by buying the converters along with a bunch of other stuff.  It keeps the price cheap.  These sell for a very good price in Wellrose.

pre-fall science textbooks: maybe you'll get lucky
tinted ballistic goggles (Wiley-Xs ideally, or a similar brand): likewise

a pistol: a light pistol, .22, .32 or medium pistol .38, 9mm, 45 APC, fairly easy to find, heavy pistols .357, .44, 10mm harder to get as are exotic but highly coveted Cilico M-110; ammunition is much more problematic.  For grit I'm thinking of differentiating between ammo.  .22, .38 and 9mm are fairly common, .32 is harder to get but does +1 damage, 45 APC harder to find but does +1 damage, .357 and 10mm are the most common heavy rounds, and .44 the rarest but it also does +1 damage.

knives: how many do you want and how good?
Ninja stars: original or home made?

baseball or boonie hat: good pre-ruin ones are hard to find, especailly ones with the sacred red B.

pre-fall soap: a pricey luxury item

still-in-the-package toothbrushes: another pricey luxury item

high quality hiking boots or running shoes of any size (for a retailer in Wellrose): pre-ruin ones are very, very expensive, homemade ones not so bad

Star Wars memorabilia (for a collector in Wellrose):  Most won't even know what this is or even consider it worth trading.  You might find trog kids palying with it.  You're looking ofr a Junk Trader here, a trader that specializes on all sorts of small peices of who knows what from the before times.  Yeah only a nut from Wellrose or the Union would want that kind of stuff.  We'll make sure a Junk Trader gets in the mix.

What I'm going to dofor the junk trader and some others is use the scavening tables in the game plus maybe some others I have for Aftermath! and just off the internet.  You can spend Fortune if you wish to have something you want available.  A small tweak which I think is 2 Fortune.

Thanks.  I realize some of the items on the wish list are long shots. He'll be real happy if he finds anything on that list, and not surprised if it is a total bust.

Some things on the list are to trade and others are for himself.

re: knives and ninja stars, he'll take what he can get if it's a good deal.

Ammo?  Days at the Library?  The Minutemen will still let you hang out to learn if nothing else.   Also you might serve as a good guard in the off chance something goes horribly wrong. You have a feeling folks underestimate little old Echo.

That all being said,  some more to think about so when the time comes, and yuo have a chance, posting can go quicker.  The Minutmen have three things they are thinking of doing:

    (1) Head straight back to Checktown, then on home or up to Wellrose if they can get an escort gig.
    (2) Head out along the Mass Pike (I-90) west looking for raiders to take out.  This will involve some off vehicle scouting.  Maybe stop in Malltown while out that way.
    (3) Head over the river to Cambridge and bring some law to the wild and maybe scavenge.  You and Jim Bob could do this one on your own, and if you want one of the Minutement might accompany you, or you may convince a "trog" to join you, maybe Blue.
    (4) Head over to Malden and journey up Rte 1.  Bringing law and maybe some trailblazing and maybe some scavenging of course.

Echo doesn't have to stick with the Minutemen she can strike out on her own some with Jim Bob and return.  Jim Bob can entrust his ammo (any anything else for that matter) with the Minutemen, who will take it to a Wellrose trader in Checktown, for a small fee, or maybe Jim Bob can make a deal with the Authority (the trogs) here to hold it, for small fee.  The Authority can be generally trusted in these matters.

If you are going to travel on the highways, however, it is best to do so in large, well armed groups.  Not so necessary if you strike out "oveland" across the ruins.  The highways are relatively tree and vegetation free (except for grass which grows no more than 3 feet high).  The residential and surfce city roads might be clogged with cars, after ruin trees, and rubble in fall from collapsing buildings.  Large areas of the surrounding cities/suburbs have burnt and been over grown over the years.  The areas are too choked, the pickings too hard to get, and the traps too many for large raider groups to make a habit of prowling the ruins on foot.  Not that they don't, mind you, from time to time.

In the "ruins" the dangers are smaller... small gangs, territorial 'steaders, scavengers, rumored mutants, mutant rats, feral dogs, night dogs (at night), lions, wolves, wulfs, giant roache swarms, mutant insects of various sizes, and of course contamination here and there.

Almost all the "unanswered questions" so far lead to bigger things going on, and you can certainly strike out to other areas and run into other things going on.

No problem.  I know how it is.  No interruptions at night when I travel, but then again it's usually exhausting days bracketed by red eye flights.

Well focus on some trading and Jim Bob getting into trouble. Smiley

    Jim Bob said:
'He has the camera with the two reel-to-reel movies. That could really be worth something, too. A guy could set up a little theater in a bartertown and take payment in food from 'steaders in town to trade. Hell, that's almost a tempting thought for Jim Bob....Nah. Maybe someday. He believes there are still some great scores waiting to be scavenged in the ruins. Soon the pickings will get to be too slim. Everything worth recycling will have been snatched already, or rotted away. Then maybe he can run a movie theater. He'll put the camera in the trading circle, but he'll drive a hard bargain for it. If it's not a real sweet deal, he'll hang on to it. "

I thought we made the camera + two reel-to-reels into a smartphone + two batteries.  But hey you can have both if you want.  Just note a portable 35mm camera  or projector is still pretty hefty.   The smartphone is the big thing that people seem interested in.

The movie idea is a good one, maybe a portable cinema.  But what movie do you have?  Hard to tell without getting it up and running.  Something with guns you think.

Malltown runs movies using the old AMC Framingham 16, popcorn is extra.
I was certainly inspired by A Boy and His Dog in this regard.

Hey gotta run, will post more tonight.

Damn. Never mind. I forgot we made the change. I was trying to remember what I had to trade, and saw that old data. I'll fix it.

I can't believe I've never seen "A Boy and His Dog." IIRC, they also watch movies in "The Postman."

Watched "A Boy and His Dog" last night via Netflix. Wow. The movie theater Jim Bob was planning was just like the one in "A Boy and His Dog." I swear I hadn't seen it before. Eerie. Or maybe just an obvious post-apoc idea.

I'll be on line here and there, but as I'm sitting in front of the beach at Oahu right now, waiting to see how my skin is doing, I'll be content to let Jim Bob take the spotlight for a bit.
